FAQ: Appliance Data Capture with OCR Enhancements

Overview

Introducing a new experience designed to seamlessly capture appliance data during inspections. This enhanced experience streamlines the process, allowing users to effortlessly extract model and serial numbers from photos using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) capabilities. Subsequently, this data is processed to accurately determine the appliance's model and manufacturing year. In cases where this information is unavailable, built-in safeguards promptly alert users, prompting them to manually verify the details.

FAQs

What are the latest enhancements designed for capturing appliance data?

The question screen is divided into photo requirements and condition questions. Photo capture is seamless, allowing users to capture the appliance photo and tag immediately afterward without interruption.

After capturing the appliance photo, Optical Character Recognition (OCR) capabilities simplify the task of capturing the model and serial number from the appliance tag photo.

OCR can be initiated in two ways:

  1. Click the OCR button to display a list of text options for selection.
  2. Zoom in on the area of the photo containing the model or serial number, then click on the highlighted text. Choose either Model Number or Serial Number, and it will automatically be pasted into the field.

Why am I prompted to manually verify appliances?

You are prompted to manually verify appliances when the submitted appliance information, including model and serial numbers, cannot determine the brand and manufacturing year. Inspectify then relies on the inspector's observation to make a educated determination.

What should I do if I can't find the appliance tag to photograph, or the appliance tag is not readable?

If you're unable to locate the appliance tag for photographing, or the appliance tag is not readable, follow these steps:

  1. At the top right corner of the screen, tap the three dots.
  2. Select the "Cannot Answer" option.
  3. Choose the reasoning for why you cannot provide an answer, which in this case would be the absence of the appliance tag, or the inability to read the appliance tag.
  4. Proceed with the flow as prompted.

Why might the OCR feature not be functioning?

The OCR functionality may not be working properly if the appliance tag's text is positioned vertically in the image. This vertical orientation poses a limitation for accurate OCR interpretation.

To mitigate this limitation, try orienting the camera so that the text on the appliance tag is horizontal when taking a photo. This adjustment can enhance the OCR functionality, enabling it to accurately recognize and process the text from the image.

Is it possible to import photos?

You can import photos from your phone into the app to meet appliance requirements.

To ensure seamless extraction of model and serial numbers using OCR functionality, it's crucial that the appliance tag photo is properly oriented with horizontal text. Prior to importing the photo, make sure to rotate it accordingly to optimize OCR accuracy.
