Best Practices: Cannot Answer

Speed through inspection questions that cannot be answered using the Cannot Answer feature.

Using this feature is as simple as selecting the reason from a predefined set of options and attaching supporting photos or videos. This will be highlighted in the inspection report and give the client all the context they need.

How does it work?

When prompted with a question that cannot be answered, locate the section labeled Cannot Answer and click the toggle to the on position to indicate the question cannot be answered. The screen will display three options, Not present, No access, and Other  in order to specify the reason why the question could not be answered.

When Not present or No access is selected, a text box will appear with a default comment for the respective option. Selecting Other requires the you to manually input the reason inside the text box.

When Not present is selected.

It is recommended, and sometimes required to attach photos or videos to support the option selected.

When I select Cannot Answer and choose one of the default options, is that then considered a limitation?

Yes. When Cannot Answer is selected along with one of the options, the system will automatically flag the response as a limitation and will present as such in the report.

Because this is automated, whenever Cannot Answer is used it will not show up in the Limitation section of the app.

What does this look like on the report when I select Cannot Answer?

The Cannot Answer response is presented in the corresponding System and Subsystem sections of the report, and marked as a Limitation including details such as a description and media (if available).

What will happen to the photos or videos I attached to the question if I accidentally toggle Cannot Answer on?

The original photos and/or videos will remain available and attached. Simply toggle Cannot Answer off to continue. Any answer response previously selected will need to be selected again.

Because Cannot Answer is toggled on, the photos will be reassigned to one of the Cannot Answer options when selected.

What happens to the photos or videos attached to the question if I accidentally toggle Cannot Answer off?

The original photos and/or videos will remain available and attached. Simply toggle Cannot Answer on to continue. Any previous selection will need to be selected again.

Similarly, any comments inputted in the text box will need to be rewritten.
