How to Create a Draw Inspection Order

Overview

A Draw Inspection is essential for monitoring the progress of a construction project and justifying the release of funds. This guide will walk you through the process of submitting a new Draw Inspection request via our app, whether it is for a brand-new property or a subsequent draw on an existing project.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Initiate the Order

Depending on the history of the property, choose one of the two methods below:

  • For a New Property (First Draw): Navigate to the App Dashboard and select "Create New Order." You must use this option for the very first inspection on any property.

  • For a Subsequent Draw (Draw 2, 3, etc.): Navigate to your Previous Orders and locate the specific property. Select the option to "Add Additional Order" to the existing project.

2. Configure Order Details

Once inside the new order screen:

  • Select Order Type: Choose "Draw Inspection" from the service menu.

  • If this is a repeat inspection, ensure you update the draw number field (e.g., change it to "2" for the second inspection).

3. Prepare and Upload your CSV

All Draw Inspections require a line-item budget to be uploaded.

  • Format Requirement: The system only accepts .CSV files.

  • Template: Your file must follow our standard formatting. You can view and copy the required template here: Draw Inspection Template.

    • The "Single Line Item" Rule

      • Each line in your CSV must represent one distinct task. Packing too much information into a single line (e.g., combining cabinets, sinks, and countertops) creates confusion and can delay your project’s valuation.

        Correct Template Format Example:

DrawItem DrawDescription DrawBudget
Kitchen Kitchen cabinets installation $5,000.00
Kitchen Kitchen countertops installation $3,000.00
Kitchen Kitchen sink installation $500.00
Kitchen Kitchen plumbing hookup $400.00
Kitchen Kitchen backsplash tile installation $1,200.00
💡 Side-Tip: How to create a CSV If your budget is currently in Excel, Google Sheets, or even a PDF, you can easily convert it.
  • Excel/Google Sheets: Go to File > Download (or Save As) and select Comma Separated Values (.csv).

  • PDF: Copy the table into a spreadsheet first, then save it as a .CSV.

4. Select Dates and Submit

After uploading your CSV, select the Dates Available for the inspector to access the property. Once selected, click Submit. Your order is now in our queue!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Why can’t I upload my budget as an Excel (.xlsx) file? A: To ensure our system parses your line items accurately and quickly, we require a standardized .CSV format. This prevents formatting errors and speeds up the inspection turnaround time.

Q: Do I need to create a brand-new order for every draw? A: If it is the first time we are visiting the property, yes. For all following draws, it is best practice to "Add an Additional Order" to the original property record to keep your project history organized in one place.

Q: Can I use my own budget format for the CSV? A: No. To avoid processing delays, please ensure your data matches the columns and headers provided in our official template.

Q: What happens if I forget to change the Draw Number? A: If the draw number is not updated (e.g., it still says "Draw 1" when it is actually "Draw 2"), it may cause confusion in your reporting. Please double-check this field before hitting submit.

Q: Can I add a new CSV for a second draw? A: Yes! When adding an additional order, you can choose to keep the original CSV on file if the budget hasn't changed, or upload a new one if line items have been updated.
