How to Screenshot & Screenrecord

How to Screenshot:

Taking a screenshot can vary slightly depending on the device and operating system you are using. Here's how you can do it on several common platforms:

iOS (iPhone/iPad):

  1. Side Button + Volume Up (for iPhone X and newer):
    • Press the side button and the volume up button simultaneously.
    • The screenshot is saved in the Photos app.
  2. Side Button + Home Button (for iPhone 8 and earlier):
    • Press the side button and the home button simultaneously.
    • The screenshot is saved in the Photos app.

macOS:

  1. Full Screen:
    • Press Command (⌘) + Shift + 3. The screenshot will be saved on your desktop.
  2. Partial Screen:
    • Press Command (⌘) + Shift + 4. Drag to select the area you want to capture.
    • The screenshot will be saved on your desktop.
  3. Specific Window:
    • Press Command (⌘) + Shift + 4, then press Spacebar. Click on the window you want to capture.
    • The screenshot will be saved on your desktop.

Android:

  1. Hardware Buttons:
    • Press the power button and volume down button simultaneously.
    • The screenshot is usually saved in the "Screenshots" folder in your Gallery or Photos app.
  2. Software Option (varies by manufacturer):
    • On some devices, you can swipe with three fingers, use the Quick Settings menu, or use a combination like power + home button.

Windows:

  1. Full Screen:
    • Press the PrtScn (Print Screen) key on your keyboard. This captures the entire screen.
    • To save the screenshot, open an image editor (like Paint or Photoshop) and paste (Ctrl + V). Then save the image.
  2. Active Window:
    • Press Alt + PrtScn. This captures only the active window.
    • Paste and save as described above.
  3. Snipping Tool (Windows 7) or Snip & Sketch (Windows 10):
    • Search for "Snipping Tool" or "Snip & Sketch" in the Start menu.
    • Open the tool, select the type of snip you want, and capture the area.
    • Save the captured image.

How to Screen-record:

The process of capturing a screen recording can also vary based on the device and operating system. Here's how you can do it on different platforms:

iOS (iPhone/iPad):

  1. Go to Settings > Control Center

  2. Tap the Add button next to Screen Recording
  3. Open the Control Center by swiping down (or up, depending on your device model).
  4. Tap the screen recording icon (a circle with a dot inside) to start recording.

  5. Wait for the three-second countdown
  6. To stop recording, open Control Center and tap the Selected Screen Recording button or the red status bar at the top of the screen, then tap Stop

Android:

  1. Built-in Screen Recorder (varies by manufacturer):
    • Many Android devices come with a built-in screen recorder.
    • Swipe down the notification bar to access Quick Settings and look for the screen recording icon.
    • Start and stop the recording using the on-screen controls.
  2. Third-Party Apps:
    • Download a screen recording app from the Google Play Store.
    • Open the app, configure settings, and start recording.

Windows:

  1. Using Xbox Game Bar (Windows 10):
    • Press Windows key + G to open the Xbox Game Bar.
    • Click on the "Capture" button (camera icon).
    • Click the "Start Recording" button.
    • To stop recording, click the square "Stop Recording" button on the Game Bar.
  2. Using OBS Studio (Open Broadcaster Software):
    • Download and install OBS Studio from obsproject.com.
    • Open OBS Studio and set up your recording preferences.
    • Click "Start Recording" to begin capturing your screen.
    • Click "Stop Recording" when you want to end the recording.

macOS:

  1. Using QuickTime Player:
    • Open QuickTime Player (found in the Applications folder).
    • Go to File > New Screen Recording.
    • Click the red record button, then select the area you want to record.
    • To stop recording, click the stop button in the menu bar.

Remember that the availability of built-in screen recording features can depend on the device model and operating system version. If your device doesn't have a built-in screen recording option, consider using third-party apps from the respective app stores.
