Inspectify Move-In Inspection Guide

Purpose of Inspection: To document the condition of a rental property before a resident moves in.

Estimated Time:  Approximately 1 hour

During a Move-In inspection, the property is usually checked for the following:

  • Interior Condition: Walls, floors, and ceilings for damage, stains, or wear and tear.
  • Doors and Windows: Ensure they properly open, close, and lock.
  • Plumbing: Check sinks, toilets, and faucets for leaks or functionality issues.
  • Electrical: Inspect light switches, outlets, and appliance functionality.
  • Appliances: Ensure all provided appliances (stove, fridge, etc.) are clean and operational.
  • Safety Features: Confirm that smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are present and in good condition.
  • HVAC: Check heating and cooling systems for functionality; inspect air filters and thermostats.
  • Exterior: Inspect the walkways and surrounding areas for any damage, and take photos of all sides of the house.
  • Garage: Test garage door and opener; check walls, floors, outlets, and lighting for damage or defects.

The scope of the inspection can vary based on the client, but inspecting the key areas—exterior, interior (bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, common areas, laundry), garage, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and appliances—is essential for a thorough review.

Important Notes:

  • Access issues: If you encounter problems accessing the property, please contact our Customer Success Team.

  • Duplicate Subsystems: When applicable, please add more rooms/systems to be sure you document the entire home.
→For example, bedrooms and bathrooms can be duplicated to add more rooms to the report
💡For further information on adding or deleting additional rooms, please see the following article: Deleting and Adding Conditional Rooms in the Inspectify App
  • Some Move-In inspections use Inspectify Flags, which are automatically triggered by certain responses. Although not required, we recommend adding deficiencies to bring attention to important issues more clearly.
  • Some clients want a comprehensive report on the state of the property and its systems, and others prefer a brief media-focused template.
  • Please answer all relevant questions in the MISC / Miscellaneous Property Information section.
  • Reports must be completed and submitted within 24 hours of the appointment time. If you experience any issues, please get in touch with Inspectify as soon as possible.
