Best Practices: Roof Condition Inspections

Clear, high-quality photos of the current roof condition are required for all Inspectify Full Home and Major Systems Plus Inspections.

For all Inspectify Full Home Inspections and Major Systems Plus Inspections, it is mandatory to provide clear, high-quality photos that accurately represent the current condition of the roof. Depending on specific client requirements, we may also request roof condition information on other inspection types. The following tips will help you to prepare for a roof inspection.

Capturing High-Quality Roof Photos

The best ways to capture high-quality roof condition photos are:

Walking the Roof
Whenever feasible, inspectors should physically walk on the roof to assess its condition, identifying both visible and less apparent issues.

Utilizing Drone Photography
If walking on the roof is not possible, using a drone can also capture high-resolution images from various angles.

Using a Ladder or Pole Camera
If a drone is unavailable or unsafe, taking photographs from roof level using a ladder or pole camera is acceptable.

Photographing from the Ground
Photographing from the ground should be a last resort, reserved for severe weather conditions that could jeopardize the inspector's safety.

If you are unable to walk the roof or use a drone to capture images, you must add a limitation to the report, including a description of why you were unable to do so.

Preparing to Perform a Roof Inspection

The following equipment is suggested for adequately capturing photos of the roof condition:

  • Camera capable of taking clear photos
  • Drone (4k minimum)
  • Pole Camera
  • Ladder (15ft)

Regardless of the method or equipment used, high-quality images are vital to providing our clients with accurate, reliable, and detailed reports.
